πŸš— One accident changed everything.

Earlier this year, Janette's vehicle was totaled in an accident. Like many people, she depended on her car to get to work and manage everyday responsibilities. Without reliable transportation, keeping her job became a real concern.

Thankfully, her brother was able to lend her a vehicle for a few months. But when it came time to return it, Janette wasn't sure where to turn. With no established credit history, traditional financing wasn't an option, and the costs of other financing choices felt out of reach.

Then a conversation with a teller at Interra Credit Union pointed her in a new direction.

After being referred to Lacasa's Auto Loan Program, Janette connected with our team and began working through the process. Just a few weeks later, she was back on the road in a dependable vehicle of her own.

Congratulations, Janette, on your new vehicle. We are excited for what lies ahead for you and your family.

Thank you to Interra Credit Union for helping connect people to resources that can make a difference when they need it most.

🏑 Meet the People Behind the Work: Ashley Woodford

When a homeowner is approved for a Help-A-House project, Ashley Woodford helps guide them through the repair process from start to finish.

As Lacasa's Real Estate Development Coordinator, Ashley works closely with homeowners, helping them understand the work being completed, coordinating schedules, answering questions, and keeping everyone informed along the way.

Recently, she worked with a local family whose condo needed several improvements, including four new windows, a replacement bathroom vanity, new bathroom faucets, a new bathroom exhaust fan, and additional attic insulation. Together, these repairs will help make the home more comfortable, energy efficient, safer, and easier to maintain.

While the repairs themselves are important, Ashley knows that clear communication and support throughout the project are just as valuable to homeowners navigating the process.

"Working with this family has been great! They have been so kind and appreciative, and it has felt good to help them make repairs to their home while they navigate some health challenges. Cynthia has been especially sweet to work with, and seeing how these improvements will make their home safer, more comfortable, and better suited to their needs has been incredibly rewarding. I also enjoyed getting to do a little vanity shopping with Cynthia and helping select finishes that she was excited about. Those personal moments make the project feel even more special. One of my favorite parts of this work is being able to directly help families in our community improve the homes they love and make them more functional for everyday living." – Ashley Woodford

πŸš— How do you afford a reliable $15,000–$20,000 vehicle when you're struggling to come up with a down payment?

For some people, the answer may be a combination of savings and support.

Eligible participants in Lacasa's Matched Savings Program may be able to receive up to $4,500 toward the purchase of a vehicle.

And if low or limited credit is making traditional financing difficult, some participants may also qualify for Lacasa's Auto Loan Program, which can provide financing of up to $12,000.

Reliable transportation can mean getting to work consistently, keeping appointments, and having one less thing to worry about each day.

If purchasing a vehicle feels out of reach, it may be worth learning about the options available.

🎨 When you hand a group of realtors paint brushes and rollers, apparently a lot can get done in one day.

This week during NeighborWorks Week, volunteers from the Elkhart County Board of Realtors spent the day at Water Tower Place in Elkhart helping refresh shared spaces for residents. A few weeks ago, our construction team updated the main level community room, so it only seemed right to give the third-floor community room the same treatment.

As it turns out, the group included a few professional painters, which definitely helped the project move quickly. But what stood out most was the energy they brought with them. The room was full of laughter, conversation, and people genuinely enjoying working together throughout the day.

After finishing the painting project, the group kept going by helping clean up the parking lot and outdoor property areas as well.

Water Tower Place is home to many retirees in our community, and projects like this help keep shared spaces welcoming, comfortable, and cared for.

Thank you to the Elkhart County Board of Realtors for spending the day with us and bringing so much positivity and hard work to our residents and staff during NeighborWorks Week.

πŸ—οΈπŸ—οΈ This week during NeighborWorks Week, we celebrated another step forward in creating affordable housing in our community.

Lacasa officially broke ground on a new 6-unit affordable housing development on East Lincoln Avenue in Goshen. The project will include both 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom units, helping create more housing options for local individuals and families.

Community leaders, partners, and supporters gathered to mark the occasion and recognize the importance of continued investment in housing here in Goshen. Projects like this are possible because of strong partnerships and shared commitment. We are grateful for the support of IHCDA, NeighborWorks America, the City of Goshen, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, and the many organizations and individuals helping expand housing opportunities in our community.

This year’s NeighborWorks Week theme, β€œCreating Homes, Building America,” is a reminder that housing shapes much more than neighborhoods. It affects stability, opportunity, and the future of families throughout our community.

πŸ’° Sometimes the best conversations happen over everyday things β€” like grocery shopping.

This Saturday, six participants graduated from Lacasa’s Master Your Money class held at Bristol Public Library and invited by The Hub of Bristol.

The class sparked some great conversations about needs versus wants, budgeting, and the small choices that can make a big difference over time. One participant even shared that they planned to think differently about β€œneeds vs. wants” the next time they walked through the grocery store.

That’s what makes these classes meaningful. They are not just about numbers or spreadsheets. They are about real life, real decisions, and helping people feel more confident with their money.

Thank you to Hearts United for Bristol and Bristol Public Library for helping make this class available and accessible to Bristol-area residents.
