The City of Fruita has made the difficult decision to cancel the July 3 fireworks show due to current drought conditions and increased fire danger in the area.
While the fireworks show is a long-standing community tradition, the safety of residents, visitors, emergency responders, and surrounding natural areas remains the Cityβs top priority. With dry conditions continuing across the region, canceling the fireworks show is a proactive step to reduce fire risk.
Even though the fireworks show will not take place this year, the community is still invited to celebrate with the City of Fruita on Thursday, July 2, during a special evening of music, activities, and a drone show at Civic Center Park.
The celebration will begin with the Thursday Night Concert featuring Hazel Miller and the Collective at 7:30 p.m. Following the concert, the City will host a drone show. Civic Center Park will be the best viewing location for the drone show, and community members are encouraged to come early, enjoy the concert, and take part in the eveningβs festivities.
The event will also include free swag, t-shirt screen printing, ice cream, and more as Fruita celebrates Americaβs 250th anniversary.
The City of Fruita would like to thank the community for understanding and for doing their part to help prevent wildfires during this dry season.
