To celebrate National Homeowners Day, we want to highlight Home Repair Services of Kent County (HRS), a non-profit located in Michigan. The testimonial below shows how impactful the assistance, resources, and support from HRS is to its clients.

"As a career U.S. Army Sergeant, Lynn Griffin never worried about his housing – it came with the job. But after retiring from military service and getting married to his wife, Eunice, the couple purchased their first home in Grand Rapids in 2011. As a new homeowner, Lynn did an internet search of 'home repairs' and learned of all the free skill workshops offered by Home Repair Services of Kent County (HRS). He soon became a regular attendee – taking every topic available. After retiring, Lynn and Eunice became eligible for repair support from HRS which helped cover the cost of a new furnace when their old one developed a cracked heat exchanger. When Lynn and Eunice fell behind on their property taxes during the pandemic and a foreclosure was looming, they once again found support at HRS in the Housing (Foreclosure) Counseling & Financial Education Program. The expertise of an HRS counselor helped them shave off the pending Sheriff’s Sale. An incredibly grateful Lynn shares, 'HRS helped me when no one else did; HRS saved my life.' We thank Lynn for his service to our nation and we are pleased to play a role in keeping the Griffins as proud homeowners on this National Homeowners Day!"

No one ever runs before they walk…It starts with one foot in front of the other – taking one step at a time. Saving for a home is very similar. We don’t just jump right in and say, “We’re buying a home tomorrow!”.
Well, at least we shouldn’t 😅 Not if we want to avoid an innumerable amount of pitfalls and unnecessary expenses.



Here’s what I recommend:

🔸Allocate a monthly savings goal
🔸Trim your expenses as much as possible
🔸Find out your credit score and improve it
