Serving in the Army produced some of Sherlynn’s foundational principles, including discipline, determination, integrity and follow through. The Grand Rapids Board of Education has named its board chambers "The Robert Dean Auditorium" in honor of the longtime community leader, pastor, and public servant.

"I feel honored," Bishop Robert Dean said during the dedication ceremony at the August 10 Board of Education meeting. "It was a privilege to sit in this seat as Board President. I was blessed to be here. I thank you for the blessing, the acknowledgement. I appreciate you Superintendent."
