Some closings feel like family. Helping Madelin from my Van Buren Youth Camp community buy her first home was exactly that.

After years of pouring into campers as a staff member and volunteer, Madelin was ready to pour into herself by building equity. A job transfer led her to Kalamazoo, bringing her closer to camp, friends, and now, her very own home with a big backyard perfect for bonfires and community. (Quick Q: Can you put your elbows on the table at Madelin's new house? IYKYK.)

Her journey wasn’t without hurdles (like walking away from a house with big repair issues), but she handled every step with courage, vision, and a deep sense of what “home” really means.

Because camp has shaped both of our lives, I’m making a pledge: every time I help someone from my camp family buy or sell, I’ll gift a “campership” to give another child the chance to find the love and stability camp has given us. Madelin and I are who we are because of the camp community we share.
