Sadly we have continue to see a rise in "spoofing scams" which result in your financial information (and accounts) being compromised. These tips can help protect your money...
1. Scammers will often “spoof” a phone number to look legitimate and make it appear as if your bank or credit union is calling you. If you were not expecting a call or text message from your financial institution, do not respond. Instead, hang up and call a verified phone number directly.
2. Financial Institutions will never contact you asking for your account number or your social security number. Never provide this information unless you’ve called your financial institution directly.
3. Most legitimate businesses will never direct you to a website to provide sensitive information. Never click on a link and always go directly to a known and trusted website. Fraudsters have sophisticated ways of creating websites that look legitimate. It can be difficult to tell the difference between fake websites and actual websites that belong to banks, credit unions and other retailers.
4. Do not share passwords, security codes, PIN information, full debit or credit card numbers or CVV codes.
5. Monitor your account daily and use the alert functions to alert you of transactions and login attempts.
6. Use the card control feature to set up limits and to turn your card off when not in use.
