Tonight we had something a little scary happen... My daughter's carbon monoxide detector started going off in her upstairs bedroom. It was a full alarm, not just a chirp, and we couldnโt figure out why.
After doing some research and investigating of my own, going back and forth on what to do, I ended up calling the non-emergency line for Alpine Township Fire Department - and Iโm really glad I did.
Within 10 minutes, Trevor and Casey were at our house. (And I begged them on the phone not to bring the big truck! ๐) They were incredibly kind, calm, and thorough. They checked every room for carbon monoxide and thankfully, everything came back clear. They provided us peace of mind and so much education. (Note: keep that dryer vent line cleaned all the way to the exit twice a year.๐) Also a good reminder to have a safety plan with a meeting spot!
While they were here, they also noticed one of our detectors in the basement was outdated. They offered to replace it on the spot with a combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectorโfor freeโthrough a State of Michigan grant program.
This is such an incredible resource available to homeowners and our community.
Sharing this as a reminder: If your carbon monoxide alarm goes off, even if it stops, itโs always worth getting it checked. I was reminded today that it's always better to be safe than sorry. These alarms are actually designed not to have false alarms, so take it seriously, even if you feel silly. And if youโre unsure about your detectors, your local fire department may be able to help.
Huge thank you to Trevor and Casey from Alpine Fire Department for taking the time to make sure our home and family were safe tonight.
Their only request was that I share with my friendsโthis is such a valuable resource for our community. โบ๏ธ๐
