Now that all those distractions have passed…..time to look around and realize that you might want to take on a new challenge. Thankfully, we live in the U.S.A., where you can do anything your drive and efforts have opportunities aplenty. Thanks to the realtors, lenders, and others that have made Abacus a success over the past 12 years….. we have a new opportunity for someone willing to dive right in.

You can apply anytime at our main office at 985 Parchment Drive SE, Grand Rapids, 49546. Just South of Cascade after coming East off I-96. We’re hoping to expand our Closing Team and would consider applications for a full time position. We offer a competitive pay scale – and our benefits include access to medical, dental, and a great matched IRA.

I’m sure a lot of people see the Lions as a “bandwagon” thing. Many of us have been Honolulu Blue for a LONG TIME. Those who aren’t should just give us this moment. Might be over soon….might be a few more weeks.

Seems like so many things catch my eye and ear. Sure, a rare moment for the Lion Faithful to self-identify. Is it just me, or are there suddenly a lot of national media figures who are saying how they grew up in Detroit or call the Lions “their team”. Whatever the reason, it seems our Midwest diction, drive, or generally pleasant nature seems to have us well represented.
Looking at Facebook, the attached picture is going around. Sure, one would expect Ford Motor Co., who owns the iconic Michigan Central Depot – and whose principal owners in the Ford family also own the Lions – to use this venue to promote the team.
For this user, the build is just “the old train station.” I can’t help but note that it’s so much more for me.

My mom and dad met and got married while working there 72 years ago.

My dad was a production line coordinator for REA Express Company, one of many legacy companies that increasing automation and innovation by companies like UPS and FEDex put out of business. Nonetheless, he spent 27 years there and retired in 1971.

My mom drove a truck for REA for several years in the late 40’s and early 50’s. She was one of those “Rosie’s” that worked at Firestone during WWII making machine gun clips. Her career was set aside in the 50’s to be a stay-at-home mom.

This building is seeing a resurgence thanks to Ford investment. The MCD was a pivotal point of entry for many people coming to Detroit. Both people and goods in large quantity moved through this building.

I slept more than a few days as a child in the office (or under the roller-chutes) when my parents where juggling.

However this season ends – great memories of visiting Mexico-town and other areas nearby – Tiger Stadium being most prominent among them.

We hope everyone is being safe and enjoying(?) our big snowstorm.

With Monday being a National and Bank Holiday, the ongoing snow event, we've decided to fully close all of our offices on Monday, January 15.

Normally, we run on skeleton staff and use MLK Day for service and training. However, safety for our staff is most important. With more heavy snow forecast, we've decided to close.

Our leadership will handle the minimal closings already scheduled.
