Becoming a Texas Real Estate Broker

Dwell Realty Group is my very own, hard work and earned. However, I didn’t get my Texas Real Estate License 13 years ago thinking that I was ever going to be a broker associate and start my own real estate team. Being completely frank with you, it was the last thing on my mind. I got into real estate because I genuinely liked the idea of being able to help people buy and sell houses.

I met my husband in 2005 and after getting married and building a house in Boise Id., he ended up finding a job back here in Texas, where he’s from. I wasn’t keen on the idea of leaving a home we just built, but the job was too good, so we packed up and headed to the metroplex. We initially moved to Arlington, but within a year, we had purchased a home in North Richland Hills and planted our roots.

I began my real estate career in 2007 right as the recession hit. Seemed like the first 50 deals I worked were bank owned, short sales or in some state of foreclosure. I promise you, dealing with banks and foreclosures is not an ideal way to start your real estate career. However, I learned a great deal during that time, especially when it came to being patient, negotiating, and communicating the process with clients.

Watching the market evolve from what was an extreme buyers market (2008-12), where homes were staying listed for months on end, to an extreme sellers market, where even the worst house had multiple offers within 24 hours, has been interesting and educational.
