When Dee was born in Grass Valley at Jones’ Hospital she became the third generation to be born in this neck of the woods. Her Grandfather, Matthew Teague, was born in Cornwall and immigrated to work here in the Empire Mine. Her family moved to Berkeley, CA a couple of years after she was born and she grew up and went to school there. Greg was born and raised in San Mateo, Ca. His parents immigrat
ed from Northern Italy and his father was an Architect and General Contractor who developed land, built and sold houses on the peninsula. They met when they both worked at UC Berkeley in the Administration; Dee was Executive Director of the ASUC and Greg was Director of the Student Union. They had both spent several years in management positions; Dee at UCSF and Greg at SFSU prior to their meeting. Later, they migrated to jobs in the private sector where Dee became a Broker with Frank Howard Allen Real Estate in Mill Valley. Greg became Operations Director in charge of leasing and operations of retail outlets throughout the country for a high end outdoor supply company. In 1990 they moved to Downieville to begin their twenty-four year adventure of off-the-grid living at their 50-acre Oak Ranch about five miles outside of town. Dee worked in Grass Valley as a Broker until she started her own business, Sierra County Realty in Downieville in 1994. In 1999 Greg joined Dee in the real estate business. They worked to become
the Real Estate experts in Sierra County as Owners and Co-Brokers . Sometimes, in the winter, they would snowmobile to work. They enjoyed being involved in community organizations. Dee has been President of the Sierra County Chamber of Commerce and Co-Chaired the 2002 Sierra County Sesquicentennial Celebration. Dee has been a Realtor for over 30 years. Greg was President of the Downieville Lions Club, Chairman of the Downieville Fire Protection District, Chair of the Sierra County Fire Safe Council and Foreman of the Sierra County Grand Jury. In 2003 they purchased a Folk Victorian built in 1881 in downtown Grass Valley right around the corner from where Dee was born. They restored the old painted lady and received a plaque for the historical restoration from the Historical Society of Grass Valley. They moved their office to Mill Street in Grass Valley in 2011 and began to grow their business in Nevada and Placer Counties. They continue to be involved in community organizations and professional activities in Nevada County. Dee is on the Alliance Council for Music in the Mountains and has chaired some special events like the world-famous Winery Dinner. Together they support a variety of community organizations and activities. Greg has been a member of the Grass Valley Planning Commission for over 3 years and Dee is a member of the Nevada County Law Enforcement and Fire Protection Council. They are proud to join the team at Coldwell Banker Grass Roots Realty. They have always admired the professional and collaborative culture here and now get the opportunity to work with some of the best in the business. They are passionate about Real Estate and are pretty darn good doing it as one of their recent reviews stated:
“Selling this property through Greg and Dee was the best real estate experience we've had in our 30+ years of home ownership. They kept us updated throughout the process, and spent a lot of effort in marketing and finding the right buyer. They are just very nice, personable folks who know their business and do it very well; they will have our business again!” The Hughes Family.
