How to Read Your Secured Property Tax Bill

Now that Nevada County’s annual secured property tax bills have been mailed, property owners may have questions about the information and charges shown on their bill.

Assessor Rolf Kleinhans and Treasurer-Tax Collector Michelle Bodley, along with their teams, are sharing a helpful guide to make understanding the tax bill a little easier. The guide explains key items, including assessed property values, tax rates, special assessments and direct charges, installment amounts, and payment due dates.

Taking a few minutes to review the bill each year can help property owners better understand how the total amount due is calculated and what each charge represents.

Secured property tax bills are being mailed to Nevada County property owners. These tax bills help support local schools, public safety, roads, libraries, fire protection, parks, and other services that contribute to the communities we call home.

The Assessor’s Office establishes property values, while the Auditor-Controller calculates taxes and the Treasurer-Tax Collector mails bills and collects payments. Tax bills may also include special assessments and direct charges from local agencies.

The first installment is due December 10, 2026, and the second installment is due April 10, 2027.
