In the state of Virginia, real property is assessed annually with January 1 as the effective date. Fairfax County residential assessments are up an average of 2.65 percent in 2020. You can find individual assessments on your property by visiting your county's government page. For Fairfax County, visit fairfaxcounty.gov, and then scroll down to "Trending in Fairfax County" to click on the link for Real Estate Assessments.

The majority of Fairfax County homeowners are seeing higher assessments on their homes in 2020.

A strong labor market and low mortgage rates boosted consumer confidence in December. What does this mean for 2020? "Home sales, including existing and new homes, probably will rise 1.9%, larger than the 1.7% gain in 2019. The gains will be led by new home sales, according to the forecast. Builders will start construction on 975,000 single-family homes in 2020, the forecast said. That would be the highest level since 2007, based on government data."

Housing market sentiment rose in December, according to a Fannie Mae gauge, as a strong labor market and low mortgage rates boosted consumer confidence.
