We have some wild winds coming tomorrow ~ no panic is needed but best to prepare. Should be interesting to see what happens with the Christmas decorations tomorrow ~ Santa’s sleigh might really be flying! 🌬🎅
💨 🚨PLEASE READ 💨 🚨
The National Weather Service is placing us in a high wind 💨 warning from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, December 15, with winds 30 to 50 mph with gusts reaching 60 to 80 mph. However, the winds are picking up and it may happen sooner than that.
There is a possibility that portions of Greeley and the surrounding areas will lose power before sunrise.
If that happens, and even after the sun rises, the stop lights and street lamps may not be functioning. We recommend staying home tonight and tomorrow if the power does go out.
If you do have to be on the roadways, please follow these traffic safety tips:
· Make sure your headlights and taillights are functioning properly and turn them on even during the daytime.
· Drive the speed limit, preferably slower, as it may be very dark and items may blow into the roadway unexpectedly.
· Avoid distractions in your vehicle, such as texting or talking on the phone, and remain focused on the roadway while driving defensively.
· When possible, consider taking alternate routes that are not heavily traveled to avoid congestion.
· Ensure your phones are charged now in case the power does go out.
· Treat all intersections as if they were 4-way stop signs. Meaning the vehicle that arrives first, proceeds first. The vehicle to the right proceeds first, if multiple vehicles arrive at the same time.
If the power does go out, and you need emergency services, the Weld County Regional Dispatch Center will remain functional.
The non-emergency number is 970-350-9600 and the emergency number is…well you know…911.
You do not need to call the non-emergency number to notify us of the outage. Please only call if you need emergency services.
