Green Bay Autonomous Tenants Union GBATU GBATU is building a base of empowered tenants who can educate & support each other in times of need.

The Green Bay Tenant's Union is a diverse, tenant-led movement fighting for the human right to housing for all. We demand safe, affordable housing and universal rent control. We organize against landlord harassment, mass evictions, and displacement. Our mission is to strengthen tenants’ political power through education, advocacy, and direct action.

With frigid temperatures setting in this week, we wanted to put out a reminder about The Salvation Army Green Bay Corps Community Center operating as a warming center. The Corps Community Center will open as a warming center throughout the winter, during regular business hours of 8 am to 4:30 pm, on any day when the temperature, actual or wind chill, is zero degrees or below. Those seeking warmth are welcome to spend time in the warming center and also receive a hot lunch served from 11:15am to 12:15pm.

There seems to be many home owners that struggle to understand why many of us are still renting/still tenants well into our 30s and 40s (or for forever) despite having the same jobs or salaries that they did at our age. The cost of staying housed is greater, the cost of living is greater, and the cost of owning housing is greater, but our wages are so nearly the same. Of course we can’t afford to own.
