šŸ’§ PREVENT FROZEN PIPES:
• Let faucets drip slightly (especially exterior walls)
• Open cabinet doors under sinks
• Keep your thermostat consistent - don't lower it at night
• Close garage doors to protect pipes

šŸ  PROTECT YOUR HOME:
• Clear snow from furnace vents and gas meters
• Replace furnace filters
• Check weatherstripping on doors and windows
• Know where your main water shut-off valve is located

āš ļø SAFETY FIRST:
• Never use your oven to heat your home
• Test smoke & carbon monoxide detectors
• Keep space heaters away from flammable items
• Check on elderly neighbors

Did you know that most mold issues in homes aren't from what you can see—but what you don't?

Here are a few quick insights from microbiologist Cassidy Kuchenbecker, MS:

šŸ•³ Crawlspaces with sand/dirt floors? Major moisture risk! Cover with plastic and seal off to prevent mold.

šŸ’§ Basements & crawlspaces are the top spots for mold growth—check for old water stains and humidity buildup.

šŸŽØ Lighter-colored mold is sneakier (and often more problematic) than the dark stuff you usually spot.

🪵 Dark mold on joists may not mean moisture—it likely came from outside before installation.

🌬 Use a 70-pint dehumidifier, set to 60% humidity, with continuous drainage—place away from carpet!

šŸ–Œ Paint wooden shelves with semi-gloss or high-gloss to prevent mold from returning.

🌔 In winter, keep the home above 55°F or follow the "dry out" rule: lower heat mid-December, raise again early April.
