Seeds for Change was an incredible evening of impact as community supporters, advocates, and friends came together to help families experiencing homelessness in Green Bay!

While good food was shared and generosity abounded, the greatest impact came through a story. Salena, a former resident of Freedom House Ministries, boldly shared about the trials and triumphs of her life. Her story serves as a reminder to keep moving forward, even when times are hard. And her commitment to her family and faith was felt by all!

In Salena's own words, "Faith is the one thing that kept me and keeps me grounded through all my struggles. God kept me through it all."

A simple egg roll has meant so much to so many.

In 2024, while living in shelter, former resident Mao had an idea: use her skills and her love of Hmong culture to give back to Freedom House Ministries. "In my culture, food brings everybody together," she said. "We learn from a young age how to cook. It is important to share our Hmong culture with others."

Her goal was to sell 400 egg rolls that first year. She sold over 1,800. Last year, that number grew to more than 2,300 egg rolls.

Now Mao is back for year three and this time, Nicolet National Bank is stepping up as sponsor to help make it happen.

"I didn't think it was going to grow as it has," Mao said. "It takes a whole village to help."

"Want to see something amazing?"

When a youngster in shelter asks a question like that, there can only be one answer: Of course!

His new trick serves as a reminder that life can feel a little bit upside down sometimes. It's something that we think about a lot working with kids experiencing homelessness. Many of them have been dealt a wildly difficult hand, navigating emotions and experiences that no child should have to face.

But kids seem to have this incredible ability to find joy in the smallest moments. Moments just like this one 💙🩵

When a family experiences homelessness, it doesn't just affect the parents. Every member of the family feels it. And for years, much of our work has understandably focused on the barriers adults face: employment, housing, transportation, income.

This year, thanks to the generosity of Jack and Engrid Meng, we're taking an important step forward for the kids in our care.

Freedom House Ministries has launched a new partnership with Counting Stars, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children through skill-building, behavioral support, and inclusive programming. Together, we're offering children in shelter structured summer and after-school programming that builds social skills, emotional regulation, daily living skills, and confidence. All while parents get one-on-one coaching to navigate behavioral challenges and build routines at home.

Many kids who enter our shelter have experienced real disruption and trauma, and some wait months for formal assessments. This partnership helps bridge that gap, offering support right when it's needed.

We've also hired a Success Advocate for Youth, which is a role dedicated entirely to helping children stay engaged in school, build positive relationships, and find consistency during a time of major transition.

When we invest in children, we strengthen parents. When we strengthen parents, we strengthen families. ⭐
