A Rockville-based developer is pushing forward on plans to build affordable housing just a few blocks from D.C.'s newest sports facility. TM Associates has submitted an application to the D.C. Zoning Commission to build a 101-unit apartment building at 1530 First St. SW, UrbanTurf reports. The proposal is the second phase of a 76-unit affordable project for which TM already has approval to build. This building, which will have ground-floor retail and 27 parking spaces, would include 46 one-bedroom units, 37 two-bedroom units, 10 three-bedroom units and eight rare four-bedroom apartments. Eighty percent of the property would be set aside for households earning up to 50% of area median income, with the remaining set at deep affordability, or for those earning up to 30% AMI. The proposal does not yet have a date for a Zoning Commission hearing. The building sits two blocks north and a block east of Audi Field in Southwest D.C., close to the local parks and government buildings that dot the middle ground between DC United's new home and Nationals Park, which lies across South Capitol Street. It sits at the northern edge — which transitions into low-rise housing — of Buzzard Point, the latest frontier for development being fueled by the new soccer stadium.
