It’s with heavy hearts we share this. George was a great man and will be terribly missed. Please pray for his family.
George Shelton - Highest Tribute 8/18/2021
In the early morning of 8/18/2021, George Shelton was “called up yonder” as the hymnal words say.
George loved the Lord, his family, Lylewood Christian Camp, and his country. He had more friends than the average man, probably because he was a good friend to so many throughout his life. He often said that some of his closest friends were from the Lylewood circles. Indeed, George spent over 45 years of his life involved with Lylewood as a camper and then giving back in all kinds of ways, including serving on the board, directing, counseling, greeting campers, property maintenance, fundraising, promoting, etc. Most of all, he loved the young campers and how the Lylewood experience helped in shaping their life important decisions in Christ and in making lasting friendships to help them in their faithwalk in life. George would occasionally share about how Lylewood impacted his life at a very critical decision juncture during his teen years. He was at the decision point of whether his life would give in to sinful temptations or choose to follow Christ. He said the thought of stepping out in the aisle at church to go up front terrified him, but making the decision to be baptized into Christ amongst supportive friends at the Lylewood pool helped him with that choice. Certainly, that personal experience was part of what motivated his long standing commitment to Lylewood.
He was loved and he will be missed, but certainly not forgotten. Please remember his family in your prayers. McReynolds, Nave & Larson will handle funeral arrangements, which are not yet complete at this time.
The non-profit Yow Foundation, Inc. is accepting donations to help with George’s expenses and other needs of those who are important to him.
