🌊 North Fork Beach Days 🌊
One of the best parts about staying at The Saltbox Greenport is how many beautiful beaches and waterfront spots are within reach, whether you want a quiet shoreline walk, a family beach day, or sunset views over the Sound.
A few favorite local spots:
☀️ 67 Steps Beach
Located off Soundview Avenue in Greenport, this hidden gem is known for its crystal-clear water, dramatic shoreline boulders, and incredible sunsets over the Long Island Sound. Its name comes from the staircase visitors descend to reach the beach.
🏖️ Fifth Street Beach & Park
Located right in Greenport Village at the foot of Fifth Street, this family-friendly beach offers a swimming area with seasonal lifeguards, playground, volleyball court, and green space perfect for a relaxed summer afternoon.
🌅 Norman E. Klipp Park (Gull Pond)
Located on Manhanset Avenue, this quieter waterfront park overlooks Shelter Island and features a beach area, playground, parking, and seasonal lifeguards. (Southold Town parking permit required.)
🚗 A Short Drive Away: Orient Beach State Park
Just east of Greenport, Orient Beach State Park offers miles of shoreline, maritime forest trails, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and some of the most peaceful coastal scenery on the North Fork.
⛴️ Quick Ferry Ride: Sunset Beach, Shelter Island
A short ferry ride from Greenport brings you to Sunset Beach: famous for its lively beach scene, waterfront dining, and iconic sunset views.
This is why June and early summer are among the BEST times to experience the North Fork: beach mornings, vineyard afternoons, waterfront dinners, and long coastal evenings.
