An amazing place to visit!

Welcome to the newest National Historic Landmark, Andalusia Farm! Located in Milledgeville, Ga, and part of the Georgia College campus, Andalusia was the home of Flannery O’Connor during her most productive years as a writer. Andalusia was the inspiration for the settings of many of her short stories. Andalusia consists of 520 acres and 14 buildings including the home where O’Connor lived with her mother until she passed away. O’Connor’s unorthodox combination of religious themes, violence, and the grotesque challenged expectations of both religious and Southern gothic literature. Her short stories represent an outstanding example of the resurgence of the short story as a literary art form in the early and mid-twentieth century, and she was one of the leading practitioners of the literary values of the New Criticism. She also holds a significant place in the development of Southern literature as one of the first twentieth-century Southern writers to focus on universal rather than regional themes and to depict the people and culture of the South without dwelling on its past.

O’Connor suffered from Lupus and passed away in 1964. Before her death, she completed two novels, Wise Blood and the Violent Bear it Away, as well as 32 short stories. Wise Blood was made into a movie in 1979. O’Connor’s writings continue to influence writers and artists today.

Sherman slept here!
Ok, he probably didn't really, but that's how local lore goes, right? Built around 1840, this home was originally built as a plantation plain design with renovations before the turn of the century which gave it the Greek Revival look it bears today. Once called the Denham Plantation, legend says that the Union army didn't burn it because of Denham's having attended West Point with Sherman prior to The War.

So many details still remain of this grand old lady. Original cranberry transom front door glass, original kitchen house attached as a functioning kitchen, wide-plank heart pine floors, original staircase & permanent staircase to the floored attic, floor to ceiling windows, 150+ year old boxwood garden, and many mature fruit and hardwood trees. With over 60 acres and barns, the possibilities are endless here! Make it a historic B&B, horse or cattle farm, event venue, or a family home.

Call your Lake Area historic home expert to see it today! I'd love to show you our unique history.

One of Milledgeville’s gems!

Built in 1879, the McComb-Holloman-Waddell House is settled along South Wilkinson Street. Its a high Victorian two-story brick home with wood trim. Sand was mixed with the original paint on wood trim to give the wood a stone-like texture. Asymmetrical in plan, this house was owned and occupied by members of the same family until 1982. A small yard between the main house and the detached kitchen has been tastefully landscaped. The house is now adapted and used as law offices.
