The Greensboro Housing Loan Fund, a public-private partnership for attainable housing, is officially in business. The targeted $32.5 million loan program, for which $21 million has been raised to date, is for for-profit and nonprofit developers of local, multifamily structures.

The program’s goal is to increase the inventory of attainable housing in Greensboro through new development and repair/rehabilitation of existing housing.

To qualify, borrowers must have recent relevant, attainable housing development experience, and their planned development must be within Greensboro’s city limits. Loan funds may be used to acquire or refinance and, if needed, rehabilitate existing attainable housing.

This is not a home loan or rental subsidy program.

Interested in building a backyard bungalow, garage or basement apartment, or in-law or mother-in-law apartment on your property?

These types of living arrangements are officially called accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and the City is trying to simplify the construction and approval process of them.

The City’s Planning Department staff has drafted an update to the current ADU ordinance to achieve this goal. ADUs are basically small houses or apartments that exist on the same property lot as a single-family residence.

Learn more about the proposed ordinance changes at one of these upcoming virtual Open House meetings:

~ 5:30 pm Monday, January 22
~ 11 am Wednesday, January 24

Register to attend a Zoom meeting by emailing City Land Development Manager Chris Andrews at [email protected], or calling 336-373-2918.

Please specify which meeting you want to attend.

Visit www.greensboro-nc.gov/ADUs to review FAQs about the proposed ADU ordinance changes and read more about what ADUs are and how they can benefit a community.
