Happy 4th of July!
The Fourth of July, also called Independence Day, marks the historic date in 1776 when the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Thomas Jefferson. The written declaration stated that the American colonies were tired of being ruled by Great Britain and wanted to become their own country. Though the vote for actual independence took place on July 2nd, from then, on the 4th became the day that was celebrated as the birth of American independence.
