I never post things like this, but this one hit hard.
We spend so much time teaching our children to be kind, share, include others, and think about how their actions affect other people.
Today my 3-year-old nephew showed us exactly that. He walked up to a younger child at the pool, handed him one of his toys, and said, “Here you go, baby.” ❤️
Less than 30 minutes later, he was leaving in tears after an adult claimed several of the water balls he had been actively playing with. He came with 8 and left with 3.
The toys can be replaced.
What stayed with me was watching a 3-year-old show kindness, generosity, and empathy while the adult in the situation chose differently.
Thankfully, after his nap, we filled up his little pool and he spent the rest of the afternoon laughing, splashing, and playing without having to worry about an adult taking his toys.
Kids are always watching us. Today was a reminder that sometimes the people teaching the lesson are the children, and the people who need the lesson are the adults.
