Good News & Bad News re: the Blue Ridge Parkway via National Park Service.

GOOD: Around 75% of the 469-mile scenic route will open by Spring, including our favorite section, from Grandfather Mountain to Blowing Rock

BAD: The worst damage Helene caused to the BRP spans from Linville Falls south to Mount Mitchell. Facilities at Linville Falls (including the visitor center, picnic area comfort station, and portions of the campground) were destroyed, and staff have documented over 48 landslides and other storm-related damage in those 38 miles.

Long story short, there will be sections of the Parkway closed between Linville and Asheville for ALL of 2025. The photo below is a mere sampling of the damage caused by Helene. 😭

As her only son, Simmons felt a deep responsibility toward her. “I knew I had no right to hurt my mother. Life had already done enough to her,” the musician confessed.

An Unexpected Interruption During His First Major Rolling Stone Interview

During his first meeting with a Rolling Stone writer, Gene Simmons was determined to project the image of a powerful and enigmatic rock star. Dressed in leather, adorned with striking jewelry, his hair styled into a voluminous mane, and wearing platform boots with silver dollar signs, he was fully committed to embodying the demon of rock. However, in the middle of the interview, the doorbell rang, abruptly shattering the carefully crafted mystique.

It was his mother, carrying enough food to feed an army—homemade soups, veal chops, pancakes, jams, and pastries. Ignoring the presence of the journalist, she insisted that Simmons and his guest, whom she affectionately called “hungry boys,” stop everything and eat. She also referred to her son by his Hebrew name, Chaim, and proudly declared that he was a good boy.

In that moment, the great demon of rock was overshadowed by reality: behind the makeup and rebellious image, he was still just his mother’s boy.
