A lot of sellers think they need massive renovations before listing their home, but honestly… most of the time, strategic updates matter more than expensive ones.
A few things I commonly recommend before listing a home 👇
• Freshen up the exterior curb appeal
I don’t personally think every home needs a black front door 😂 but choosing a color that complements the exterior can make a huge difference. New shutters, fresh mulch, updated house numbers, and a clean entryway go a long way without spending a fortune.
• Repaint walls IF needed
Bold walls aren’t always bad. They can actually look great when they flow cohesively with the rest of the home and design style. The issue is usually when colors feel too loud, overly personalized, or disconnected room to room.
• Update outdated light fixtures
One of the easiest ways to modernize a home. Just make sure the bulb tones all match throughout the house too; mixed lighting temperatures can make a home feel off in photos and in person.
• Declutter and start packing early
You’re going to pack anyway, so starting before listing usually helps tremendously. Less clutter makes rooms feel larger and helps buyers mentally picture themselves in the home instead of focusing on your belongings.
• Power wash the exterior surfaces
If the siding, driveway, patio, sidewalks, or fencing are dirty and grimy, power washing can completely freshen up the look of the property and make it feel more maintained immediately.
Most sellers do NOT need to dump tens of thousands into renovations before selling. Buyers respond more to cleanliness, maintenance, presentation, lighting, and overall feel than people realize.
