Assessment notices have been mailed to property owners. These notices include important information used to calculate your property taxes for the year.
The most important figure on your notice is the taxable value, as your property taxes are based on this amount unless you choose to appeal.
Understanding taxable vs. assessed value:
๐น If you have owned your home for more than one year, your taxable value may be lower than the assessed value due to state limits on annual increases.
๐น The assessed value represents half of the propertyโs estimated market value as calculated by the state.
๐น If you purchased your home in the past year, the taxable and assessed values are usually the same in the first year. Over time, taxable values generally grow more slowly than assessed values due to state limits on increases.
