RP acquires land along California's major rivers and does the boots-on-the-ground work to restore native riparian floodplain and its habitat. Their efforts:
-- increases vital marshland area, which is the filter for our air and water;
-- restores original floodplains, which gives the water somewhere to "rest" and allows the water to soak back into the earth, replenishing aquifers;
-- creates critical habitat for wildlife, especially endangered species;
-- reduces water runoff and increases floodwater storage ... which reduces the likelihood of flood in cities and towns built in along the river and in low-lying areas;
-- re-introduces appropriate (drought-tolerant and flood resistant) native plants to the ecosystem, which feeds critical species and sequesters greenhouse gases;
-- helps California be more resilient to climate change, as the state predicts river surges to be 2 to 5 times higher than the historical maximum ever recorded;
-- reduces the need for major man-made water storage projects.
If you are giving or advocating, think of this small organization with large impact on California waterways.

I love these new homes in Atascadero for people trying to break into this crazy market (must be owner-occupied, not rentals).

Today in Pismo Beach is the Learn to Surf clinic for local adaptive or para-athletes.

The clinic is the first event in the week of the ParaSurfing World Championships here in Pismo.

This brave young lady has no legs below the knees or arms below the elbows yet was on a board in the ocean. I'm in awe.
