6/18/26 3am Urgent Update. A multi-hazard weather event is unfolding for our area today through Friday associated with tropical moisture overspreading the area from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur.
๐ŸŒง๏ธ A portion of the area is now outlooked under a rare High Risk of excessive rain which could result in considerable to catastrophic flash flooding today through Friday. This is a particularly dangerous life threatening setup that is evolving. Torrential rain will bring an additional 6-12" (locally 15"+), with the highest flash flood threat being today. Significant river flooding will also be a concern. High risk creek beds will likely see rapid water rises and potential problems if near roads.
๐ŸŒช๏ธ There is also a slight risk of severe storms today capable of isolated tornadoes and damaging winds!
๐ŸŒŠ Coastal hazards are also increasing, with life-threatening rip currents through Saturday and 5-7 ft surf late tonight-Friday morning. Minor coastal flooding is also possible around this afternoon's high tide, especially near Mobile Bay.
โ€ผ๏ธ Stay weather aware and be ready to take urgent action if Flash flood warnings are issued, particularly wireless emergency alert flash flood warnings or considerable and/or catastrophic flooding. Remember, never cross flooded roads, **Turn Around, Don't Drown!**

Hurricane season starts TODAY, June 1! Review the checklist below and take some time to prepare!

Obtaining a Hurricane Re-Entry Decal before a storm occurs is imperative. In the event of an emergency where areas of Gulf Shores are evacuated, Hurricane Re-entry Decals serve to identify those who should be allowed into a restricted area(s) at the appropriate time. Please note: once a Hurricane Warning is issued for Gulf Shores, re-entry decals are no longer distributed. For information on Hurricane Re-Entry Decals, please visit www.gulfshoresAL.gov/HurricaneDecal.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's free notification program to receive important information, updates, and alerts regarding severe weather. Sign up by visiting www.gulfshoresAL.gov. Another way to receive accurate severe weather information is by following reliable social media channels such as the US National Weather Service Mobile Alabama, City of Gulf Shores - Municipal Government, and Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency for updates.

There are several ways you can prepare your home to help protect it from the effects of hurricanes. Around your property, trim trees and declutter drains and gutters. When a storm is approaching, bring in outdoor objects that could become flying debris, install hurricane shutters, and utilize sandbags. If you notice a drainage issue that could cause flooding, contact the City's Public Works Department at 251.968.1156.

๐Ÿงฐ ๐—š๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€
Remember, the first 72 hours after a storm are on you. Every home needs an emergency kit with a three-day supply of food, water, and other basic necessities. When gathering supplies, consider your family's specific needs, including supplies for pets and any special medications required for household members. For a list of recommended supplies for your emergency bag, visit https://www.ready.gov/kit.

In the event of an emergency and an evacuation is mandated, it is important to have a plan set in place. Your plan should outline where you are going, how you are going to get there, and how long your trip should take. Once you have a plan, share it with your friends and family members so they are informed of your whereabouts in case you are unable to contact them.

In preparation for Hurricane Season, the City of Gulf Shores is hosting its Annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo on Thursday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center. This free event offers the public an opportunity to educate themselves on hurricane preparedness and the many products and services available before, during, and after a storm. Federal, state, and local agencies, as well as local businesses specializing in storm products and services, will be in attendance. Residents can also obtain an up-to-date Hurricane Decal at the event.
