It’s officially underway! Channel South broke ground Friday and we are just getting started. Thank you WLOX for the coverage. New jobs, new dining, new shopping and a downtown our whole community can be proud of. Here we go!

Gulfport’s $105 million town center project officially broke ground Friday. Officials gathered to celebrate the milestone and reveal the development’s official name.

Gulfport officials, state officials and developers gathered to celebrate the project, which will be called Channel South. Channel South is a mixed-use development which will bring apartments, a new hotel and street-level dining and shopping.

Channel honors the manmade channel that connected
sea to rail and helped shape Gulfport's identity.

South pays tribute to the legacy of the Great Southern
Hotel that once stood on this very site.

Today we broke ground on a $105 million mixed-use
district at U.S. 90 and 49.
136 luxury residences. 294-space parking garage for
residents, hotel guests, and downtown visitors. EV
charging stations. Street-level retail and restaurants.
Hotel Holden. Rooftop bar overlooking the Gulf.

Channeling the past, creating what's next.

This corner of Gulfport has always
meant something.

The Great Southern Hotel stood here as more than a
landmark. It was a gathering place. A symbol of what
this city was capable of. A reminder that Gulfport has
always known how to build something worth
remembering.

That spirit never left.

Today, something new will start to rise on this site.
