Celebrating Juneteenth: A Day of Freedom and Reflection
On June 19th, we commemorate Juneteenth, a historic day that marks the end of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the freedom of enslaved African Americans, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
Juneteenth is a time for us to reflect on our history, honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans, and commit to continuing the fight for equality and justice. As we celebrate this significant milestone, let us recognize the progress made and acknowledge the work still to be done.
Happy Juneteenth!
