🌀 Hurricane Preparedness Checklist: Small Tips, Big Peace of Mind 🏡
Living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast means being prepared before a storm is on the radar. Here are a few simple tips that can make a big difference:
✔️ Freeze gallon-sized zip-top bags of water (leave room for expansion) to keep food cold and provide drinking water as they thaw.
✔️ Turn your A/C down the night before a storm to keep your home cooler longer if the power goes out.
✔️ Lower your refrigerator and freezer temperatures and take photos of the contents for potential insurance claims.
✔️ Document your home with photos and videos—inside and out—before the storm arrives.
✔️ Fill bathtubs with water for flushing toilets and washing items.
✔️ Charge everything: phones, laptops, battery packs, and backup chargers.
✔️ Use glow sticks in water bottles or milk jugs for easy, kid-friendly lanterns.
✔️ Don't forget alternative stores for supplies—office supply, home improvement, and military surplus stores often have essentials when grocery shelves are empty.
✔️ Fill your washing machine with ice and use it as an extra cooler for perishables.
✔️ Store important documents, photo albums, and valuables in the dishwasher (just be sure everyone knows not to turn it on!).
Preparation today can bring peace of mind tomorrow. What hurricane prep tip would you add to the list?
