This closing was a little different… and one I won’t forget. Hang around and see why.
This transaction started with a simple phone call from an older gentleman asking about one of my listings. As we talked, I learned that he didn’t use email, text messages, or the internet. He lived about two and a half hours away in a very rural area of Alabama, and because he is also a very private person, many of the conveniences we rely on every day in real estate simply weren’t an option.
So, we did things the old-fashioned way. Snail mail, phone calls, trips back and forth to the Coast and a whole lot of patience from everyone involved.
What started as a phone call asking about a property eventually turned into him becoming the buyer of that property and I had the privilege of representing both him and the sellers through the transaction.
But what makes this closing even more special is why he wanted this particular home. He use to live on this street, he knew the area, he knew the neighborhood, and at this stage of his life he simply wanted to come back to a place that felt familiar, to a street that held memories for him and felt like home. I can’t help but think that there are probably people who would have heard, “I don’t do email or internet,” and decided this transaction would require too much time or effort BUT THIS is where my love for real estate comes into play. It isn’t just about selling houses or getting to the closing table and it certainly isn’t always about doing things the quickest or easiest way. Sometimes it’s about slowing down, listening and meeting someone right where they are and finding a way to help them get home.
I am incredibly thankful for my sellers, who are agents themselves and understood that this transaction required a little extra patience and a different way of doing things. They were gracious throughout the process, and that helped make today possible.
I’m beyond grateful that both my sellers and my buyer trusted me to navigate this transaction for them. Today was a good reminder for me and hopefully for someone else too. Take the time to listen to people. Take the time to help people. Especially in a career where we are trusted with some of the biggest decisions and transitions of their lives. Sometimes the transactions that require a little more time, a little more patience, and a little more heart are the ones that remind you exactly why you chose this career in the first place. 🏡❤️
Congratulations to my sellers and to the new homeowner. Welcome back home.
