GCAR Members.
We want to make you aware of a recent scam several members have experienced.
Scammers impersonating members by phone or email have reached out to brokerages, the Association, or MLS to request login information or to request changes to member contact info.
To protect your information, GCAR will be verifying members' identities before assisting with any member details. For your protection, we will no longer give login details over the phone. All members can reset their password on the login page.
We will also require that any changes to your information come from the email that we have on file and also be verified by phone at the number we have on file.
In your own offices, please be diligent in verifying the member's identity before making any of the following changes:
Requests to reset passwords or change account information.
Requests to add or change an email address on an agent/member account.
Requests for temporary passwords or login assistance.
Emails coming from an address that is slightly different from the member's verified email.
Requests involving urgency, especially when the person claims they cannot access their normal email.
Anyone requesting that account information be sent to an alternate email address.
Fraudulent business cards, logos, signatures, or other professional-looking information being used to establish credibility.
