Seeing our little program — one that started with a simple idea to help both the environment and homeless pets — recognized in our local paper means more than words can say. To know that Marshall County is starting to hear about Izzy and what she represents is truly humbling.

Thank you to Anthony Campbell for telling our story, to 2nd Chance Shelter and Marshall County PALS for the incredible partnership, and most of all — thank YOU, our supporters, for every can, every share, and every bit of encouragement along the way. This is just the beginning. 🐾

🐾 What if helping a shelter pet was as simple as something you already throw away?

That's exactly what's happening right now. The ViP Cabins at Lake Guntersville donates their pet fees to Second Chance Shelter every time a furry guest checks in. Parker Hannifin saves their facility's aluminum cans — turning everyday recycling into food, medicine, and shelter for pets in need.

And they're not alone. Year after year, partners like Marshall County PALS , PetSmart in Albertville , WQSB , Boaz City , The Groom Room , Happy Fest, Ruger's Ride and MANY others show up for these animals in their own unique ways. So many different ideas, all leading to one big impact. 💙

Here's why it matters so much: Second Chance Shelter is a NO-KILL, NON-PROFIT shelter, which means every pet gets the time they need to find their forever home — but that takes real, daily resources:
🍖 ~300 lbs. of dog food A DAY (about $200-300/day)
💊 Up to $1,000 a month in medicine — heartworm prevention, vaccines, and more
✂️ About 40 spay/neuter procedures a month
🐾 Hands-on care and labor, every single day, with no days off

That's a lot to carry — and it's exactly why community partnerships matter so much. Plus, there isn't another shelter like Second Chance anywhere near us — our community needs Second Chance Shelter as much as we need our community!

Green Steps For Homeless Pets is a movement started by one person with a simple idea: keep aluminum cans out of the landfill, turn them into cash, and let every penny go straight to the shelter. 🥫💙
