October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and this year the Pohatcong Township Police Department will be conducting a fundraiser to benefit a Warren County resident.

Nicole Papa, 36, of Hackettstown was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in July of this year. TNBC accounts for about 10-15% of all breast cancers and differs from other types as it is invasive and tends to grow and spread faster. This type of cancer has fewer treatment options and tends to have a worse prognosis.

Nicole’s first surgery to remove a tumor and several lymph nodes was in August, six short weeks later the cancer had tripled in size. Nicole has been on unpaid leave since her August surgery and is expected to be until her treatments are complete. Nicole’s oncology plan will be the AC-T regimen which will include 16 intensive cycles of chemotherapy which is anticipated to be completed in Spring of 2023. After, Nicole will need to undergo additional radiation treatments.

The Pohatcong Township Police Department will be selling Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts for $25 each, in which all proceeds raised will be donated to Nicole. The shirts will be available for purchase for the entire month of October. The shirts will be shipped 12 days after the closing date of the fundraiser.

The shirts will be sold through the website Custom Ink, and buyers can have the option of having their shirts shipped directly to them or they can be picked up at the Pohatcong Township Police Department. There is also an option to donate to the fundraiser without purchasing a t-shirt.
