716 California St - Santa Cruz CA.

This was a home that I bought before the pandemic and spent over two years remodeling. It was a Historic, so the windows alone took over a year for a permit. Things don’t move super fast on the coast of California in the planning department! We did submit a full set of plans and change the floorplan into a magnificent four bedroom California bungalow. It was a very long and tedious process, but the end result made everything worth it.

When you are thinking about remodeling, just remember, it usually always takes longer than you expect. Be prepared to have the project snowball as well as you find out what’s actually behind walls as there may be other things that need to be replaced once you start.

An appraisal may not always accurately reflect what a ready and willing buyer will offer for your home if it’s a rising or falling market or you aren’t already in contract with a purchase price. An appraisal is based on an evaluation of your home's condition and features, and most recent sales of similar properties. But it may not take into consideration other things like market trends.

3) Use an online home value estimator. These tools evaluate the worth of your house using public information and algorithms. Unfortunately, they may use comps that are in different neighborhoods or have a different condition than yours. They are not as precise.

4) Compare recent sales. However, keep in mind that the market and the condition of your house may result in a valuation that is greater or lower than those transactions.
