Maui Land & Pineapple Company is honored to partner with Kaibigan Ng Lahaina to create a new seven-acre community space dedicated to healing, connection, and ʻāina-based education in West Maui. Located above Honoapiʻilani Highway, this site will offer opportunities for farming, cultural activities, and restorative programs that support residents as they continue their recovery.

We are grateful to support Kaibigan’s important work and to help provide a welcoming space where the community can reconnect with the land and with one another. This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to being a responsible steward and contributing to Maui’s long-term recovery.

This week marks the annual chick banding of the ʻUaʻu kani — Hawai‘i’s native wedge-tailed shearwater — at Hāwea Point in Kapalua.

Thanks to the efforts of Nāpili resident and former MLP employee Isao Nakagawa, this colony has grown from just a handful of birds in the early 2000s to more than 4,000 burrows.

Restoration of the ʻUaʻu kani and the coastal habitat at Hāwea continues today through Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project’s partnership with Hawaiʻi Land Trust (HILT) and Kapalua Resort Association (KRA).

Mahalo to everyone who continues to protect and care for these seabirds and the coastal ecosystems they call home. Together, we’re helping ensure future generations can continue to see the ʻUaʻu kani nesting along Maui’s shores.

New opportunities are growing Upcountry. Longtime ag leader Darren Strand has joined our team to help launch an agave venture in Hāli‘imaile. We’re transforming former pineapple fields into a sustainable farm planted with blue weber agave, a drought-tolerant crop that supports local jobs and restores the land.

“I’ve spent my career working on strengthening Hawai‘i’s farms and food future, and I jumped at the chance to work with MLP’s new leadership team to reimagine responsible, diversified agriculture in Upcountry,” — Darren Strand
