The following is important Hurricane Irma information and updates:
MANDATORY EVACUATION IN EFFECT, PLEASE LEAVE THE BUILDING ASAP FOR YOUR SAFETY -SHELTER GUIDE ATTACHED

FULL STAFF WILL REMAIN ON PROPERTY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY
A FRONT DESK PERSON WILL REMAIN UNTIL SUSTAINED WINDS REACH 45MPH.
AT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 45 MPH, THE BUILDING WILL BE SHUT DOWN. THERE WILL BE NO A/C OR WATER IN THE BUILDING. ALL ACCESS DOORS WILL BE LOCKED UNTIL AFTER THE STORM AND WINDS REACH 35MPH. WHEN FSR STAFF RETURNS TO THE BUILDING, THEY WILL UNLOCK THE LOBBY SLIDING GLASS DOOR AND ALLOW ACCESS BACK TO THE BUILDING
The threat for direct impacts is becoming more likely for all of South Florida. The window of greatest concern is pre-dawn Saturday through early Monday morning. Tropical storm force winds are expected to begin Saturday morning or afternoon in Broward County and are expected to worsen throughout the weekend into Monday. Today, Thursday 14 shelters opened at noon. All county operations closed on Wednesday and will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.
Potential impacts are for destructive winds, significant storm surge along South Florida coastal areas and flooding rains.
It is important not to focus on the hour to hour changes with models and that straight line in the middle of the forecast track. Irma is a large hurricane.
People should complete gathering their emergency supplies and Friday will be the last day to finalize preparations.
Heed evacuation orders from officials. Also, if you are not in an evacuation area, plan to stay put and prepare your safe room.
Special needs people who need assistance are asked to call 311 so they can be registered at a shelter. Officials said there is currently one shelter for special needs people, but they will activate more shelters if needed.
Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport remain open at this time, but passengers are advised to check with their airline or cruise line for possible delays or cancellations.
Broward County Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule on Thursday and Friday.
Express Bus service will continue to operate. Routes 15, 23, 56, and 88 will run on a weekday schedule.
As Hurricane Irma approaches the Turks and Caicos Islands today into Friday, it is forecast to remain a major storm. The hurricane is expected to remain over the open waters of the Atlantic and stay strong. On Saturday, it will be moving over the central Bahamas and approaching the Florida Straits by Sunday. Irma will likely start to turn north and either make landfall in South Florida or just be located to the east. Either way, impacts will be significant. It is expected to be powerful and large in size. Watches will likely be issued for South Florida later this morning, no later than this afternoon.
