As New York City rents continue escalating, apartment hunters from the metropolitan area are increasingly looking to Connecticut for rentals, with new data showing demand extending from Fairfield County to Connecticut's "Quiet Corner."

Whether for weekend getaway pads or permanent moves, metropolitan New York City dwellers dominated Realtor.com searches for Connecticut rentals between April and June, compared to those from other population centers as analyzed by CT Insider.

"Very soon, Stratford and Bridgeport will be as close to New York City as Stamford is today," Gov. Ned Lamont said about planned Metro-North improvements. "That opens up the whole residential catch basin. ... That's what we're trying to do all over the state."
