It blows my mind that in 2025/2026 people are still out here plowing 10+ inches of snow for $25–$50 like it’s 1998 and gas is 89 cents.
Respect the hustle — but let’s be honest…
That’s not “affordable.” That’s financial su***de.
You’re putting:
• Thousands of dollars in equipment
• Commercial insurance (not your Geico policy 😅)
• Fuel that costs more than your lunch
• Wear & tear that eats trucks alive
• Your time, your body, your sleep
…on the line for beer money.
And then every storm I hear:
“I had a plow guy… I don’t know what happened to him.”
Yeah.
He charged $25.
His truck broke.
Now he can’t afford to fix it.
And now you’re mad at the guy who actually runs a business.
Let me be clear:
💥 $100+ to plow after a real storm is NORMAL.
💥 That’s not price gouging — that’s survival.
💥 This isn’t a charity, it’s a service.
Plows cost:
• $3,500 on the cheap end
• $8,000–$14,000+ for real setups
• Trucks = $50k–$80k
• Insurance = brutal
• Repairs = constant
And no — your cousin with a half-rusted plow and no insurance isn’t “doing it cheaper,” he’s just one breakdown away from disappearing.
Same thing as lawn care.
Same thing as construction.
Same thing as every trade.
You get what you pay for.
So next time you scoff at a price, remember:
You’re not paying for snow to move…
You’re paying for someone who actually shows up, finishes the job, and can afford to do it again tomorrow.
Support real operators.
Support people feeding families.
Support businesses that won’t vanish mid-storm
