As many runners will tell you, the competition is mainly against yourself. The version of you that showed up at those previous races. Well today I am so proud to say I beat all of those other 1/2 marathon times. I finally took down my 47 year old self. She was a fierce competitor but I captured a new PR. Watching you chase this dream has been such a gift. Before the sun came up and when no one was watching, you showed up—early mornings, long runs, sacrifices made quietly and consistently. You chose discipline over comfort, and commitment over convenience. You ran on days when the beach called, went to bed early when friends stayed out late, and kept going even when it was hard.

Your hard work shaped more than an athlete; it revealed the strength, grit, and heart of the young woman you’ve become.
