As of July 1st, the Department of Professional and Organizational Regulation for the state of Virginia (DPOR) required that all home inspectors be licensed. Before this rule was in place, we voluntarily participated in the state's unrequired certification program. Now that the rules require licensure, we are licensed in the state of Virginia as of July 1st. Along with the licensing requirement that went into effect in July, home inspectors in Va are now also required to obtain additional certification if they want to inspect newly constructed homes. We took the necessary steps to receive that designation, which is called the New Residential Structure (NRS) designation and as of July 20th we can now inspect new constructions. If you are looking into getting a home inspector, make sure they are licensed and if you are having your new home inspected, make sure they have that NRS designation. You can look up all licensed inspectors at the DPOR website.
