Want those “I can’t believe this view was worth such an easy hike” moments? These 5 Poconos trails offer beautiful fall nature escapes, from peaceful wetlands to waterfalls and giant boulder fields. 🥾🍂
Here’s what to know before you hit the trail 👇
🌿 1. Thomas Darling Preserve — Peaceful nature walks
📍 Pocono Lake, PA
Explore marked trails through forests and wetlands, with opportunities to spot birds and wildlife. The shorter Whitetail and Flying Squirrel trails are worth checking out for a quieter walk surrounded by nature.
🌊 2. Lakeside Trail — Lake views
📍 Tobyhanna State Park
This 5.1-mile loop circles Tobyhanna Lake, offering lakeside scenery and wildlife-watching opportunities. It’s rated easy, but the distance still calls for enough time and comfortable walking shoes.
🌲 3. Old Entrance Trail — A woodland escape
📍 Gouldsboro State Park
This 1.8-mile out-and-back follows the park’s former entrance through a peaceful forest. It’s a good choice if you prefer a simple woodland walk over a dramatic overlook.
💦 4. Hawk Falls Trail — A waterfall payoff
📍 Hickory Run State Park
Follow the trail through rhododendrons to a beautiful 25-foot waterfall. It’s only about 0.6 miles, but it’s rated more difficult, so watch your footing. Swimming is prohibited at the falls.
🪨 5. Boulder Field Trail — Unusual natural scenery
📍 Hickory Run State Park
This 3.5-mile out-and-back leads to Boulder Field, a National Natural Landmark filled with massive boulders. The uneven, potentially unstable rocks mean sturdy footwear and careful steps are essential.
🍁 Before you go: Check current trail conditions, bring water, and wear appropriate footwear. Fall foliage timing varies each year, so check local updates if you’re hoping to catch peak color.
