You Won’t See These in the Photos On Zillow - And They Could Cost You

Online, that home online might look like a dream. In person? It’s a whole different story.

Here’s what to watch out for when you step through the door:

1. It hits you in the face - the scent.
Not a vibe. If it smells like someone sprayed half a bottle of Febreze, ask yourself: what are they trying to hide? Mold? Pets smells ? A recent flood?

2. One wall looks suspiciously “new.”
A single freshly painted patch = something went down. Water damage or cracks don’t show well in pics-but you’ll see the cover-up live.

3. Doors that mysteriously won’t open.
Closets. Basements. Spare rooms. If they’re locked or off-limits, that’s not just weird-it’s a sign there’s something you’re not supposed to see.

4. Windows that don’t open (or weren’t meant to). Photos don’t show functionality. But jammed, sealed, or stuck windows? That’s a red flag for moisture damage-or worse.

5. Floors that feel wobbly, soft, or uneven.
You’ll never catch this in a glam photo shoot, but your feet don’t lie. If the floor feels unstable, there might be deeper issues underneath.

6. A flawless lawn... with no drainage in sight.
Too much mulch, soggy patches, or water stains around the house? That’s poor grading or hidden water problems waiting to happen.

Real talk: A showing isn’t just about falling in love with the vibe.

It’s about spotting the pitfalls that didn’t make the listing details. And that’s where a sharp-eyed agent makes all the difference.

Price reductions are not always a sign that something is “wrong” with a home. Sometimes it’s simply the market giving feedback.

A listing may lower its price because:
• Buyer demand shifted
• Interest rates changed affordability
• More competition hit the market
• The home was originally priced too aggressively
• Sellers need to create urgency and attract fresh buyers
• Buyers today are comparing value more carefully than ever

Every market moves differently, but one thing stays consistent: buyers decide value based on what else they can purchase at that same price point.

The longer a home sits without activity, the more important strategy becomes. Sometimes a small adjustment creates new momentum, more showings, and stronger offers.

Pricing isn’t about chasing the highest number possible. It’s about positioning a home correctly for the market that exists today — not the one from six months ago.

Homes that adapt to the market usually outperform homes that ignore it.
