I’m excited to share some great news with you!
Hanover has been selected as one of Hallmark’s 25 Official Hallmark Christmas Towns and is now in the running to be named Hallmark’s Merriest Christmas Town of 2026!
A few weeks ago, I submitted an application on behalf of Main Street Hanover highlighting the wonderful holiday traditions, events, and community spirit that make Hanover such a special place during the Christmas season. It looks like we weren’t the only ones; Hallmark shared that one or more Hanover residents also nominated our community! It’s wonderful to see that our community members are just as passionate about showcasing Hanover’s Christmas spirit.
Now It’s Time to Vote!
The community selection period begins today, August 14, and runs through September 4, 2026.
Residents and supporters can visit https://merriestchristmastownscontest.hallmarkchannel.com/ to vote for their favorite Official Hallmark Christmas Town.
Eligible participants must be U.S. residents age 18 or older
You can vote once per person, per calendar day
You can vote for Hanover every day throughout the voting period
After the public voting period, a panel of judges will evaluate all 25 finalist towns based on Community Spirit, Holiday Traditions, Neighborhood Charm, and Goodwill to determine Hallmark’s Merriest Christmas Town of 2026.
The winning town will have the incredible opportunity to serve as the filming location for a future Hallmark holiday movie!

By now it is probably too late to do anything about it, but the unsettling fact remains that the so-called sale of Manhattan Island to the Dutch in 1626 was a totally illegal deal; a group of Brooklyn Indians perpetrated the swindle, and they had no more right to sell Manhattan Island than the present mayor of White Plains would have to declare war on France. When the Manhattan Indians found out about it they were understandably furious, but by that time the Dutch had too strong a foothold to be dislodged—by the Indians, at any rate—and the eventual arrival of one-way avenues and the Hamburg Heaven Crystal Room was only a matter of time.
