La Hacienda Casitas A 56-unit cottage community designed by bcWorkshop and developed by CDCB that promotes affordable, livable housing, in harmony with the environment.

La Hacienda Casitas features an award-winning, innovative, sustainable design. All units are certified by LRGV Green Built Standards and Energy Star standards, incorporating efficient building envelopes, water saving fixtures, and efficient appliances. The 56 homes and 6 community buildings are laid out across the site, taking advantage of existing tree cover, and creating outdoor gathering spaces

which connect residents to community amenities and to each other. In keeping with the cultural context of the project, the “Casitas” themselves are modeled off a Mexican housing type meaning “small home”. Front and back porches allow residents to engage the street and green spaces. The porches were designed to encourage more interaction among La Hacienda residents and native landscaping will allow for low site-maintenance and require less water; both contributing to the project’s focus on the importance of community and sustainability.
