We didn’t mean to upgrade our kitchen this weekend.

But when the sink is leaking, a repair is urgent.

That’s the thing about homeownership—you’re the one taking on the risk, so when things break, you’re the one who’s responsible for fixing them.

But you also get to decide HOW to fix them.

We chose the faucet that we wanted for our family’s needs. We installed it ourselves, using tools we already owned, within a couple hours of discovering the problem. Someone else might have chosen a different faucet and paid someone to install it. Neither route is better as long as it fits your needs and budget.

Likewise, neither homeownership or renting is objectively better. It’s a matter of what works for you in your current season of life.

The Music Man has truly been a family affair this summer. As scenic designer, I’ve brought the scenery a few miles upriver from River City, Iowa to include nods to the Old Hastings buildings I love to explore as a Realtor throughout the show. Cheryl is having a blast in the orchestra, and Bud is living it up as the youngest member of the cast.

Bud had such a fun turtle party at Carpenter Nature Center! He and his friends got to explore turtle habitats, find turtle food, get up close and personal with several different types of turtles, and enjoy turtle crafts and snacks.

We love going to Carpenter in part because of their caring and enthusiastic staff, and Abbey really knocked it out of the park with this private event!
