This 2003 move was an incredible project and a big undertaking.
It resurfaced in the “Remembering Lincoln” page and the owner of the Home, Bruce Stahr, did an amazing job turning this into a spectacular property!
A little more about this particular move, the house, which weighed 160 tons because of the concrete block construction, was built in 1911 and stood just southeast of 70th and O streets (where Victory Park Senior Center and Apartments are now). It became part of the Veterans Administration grounds until the early 2000s. The house had been vandalized and gutted, so was considered for demolition.
Bruce Stahr stepped in and purchased the house, with the intent to move it to 148th and Van Dorn. The endeavour, which Stahr said cost upwards of $50,000, was a major undertaking. The house was transported south on 70th to A street, then east.
It has been transformed into the Prairie Creek Inn Bed & Breakfast.
This photo shows as the house is maneuvered through the 84th and A intersection, heading east.
