Artspace Hastings River Lofts Artist Housing for a Picturesque Mississippi River Town Based on community and artist demand Artspace is developing the Artspace Hastings River Lofts.

Hastings is a picturesque old Mississippi River town with a walkable downtown full of historic buildings and a burgeoning arts scene. Responding to the success of Artspace projects around Minnesota and across the country, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council (HPAAC) and the City of Hastings brought Artspace in to conduct a survey of the space needs of artists living and working in Hastings and

the surrounding River Valley area. More than 200 local artists participated in the survey revealing a need for affordable artist housing and an interest in a variety of spaces that would serve artists and creative industry in Hastings. The $11.7 million mixed-use facility will be located on a former industrial site on E. Second Street, downtown Hastings’ main street. The project will include 37 affordable live/work units for artists and their families, 2,500 square feet of ground floor retail space, a 1,700-square-foot gallery, and 2,960 square feet of community green space.
