Modern Kitchen Appliances have become fashion forward design statements that offer the home owner a huge selection of color, finish, and style options! The one time favorite, stainless steel, now has some competition. Move over, baby! Sophisticated additions of Matte Black and Matte White are used on surfaces for refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves, and ovens. These beautiful colors are paired with eye-catching copper, bronze, and brass hardware. The look is so chic and sophisticated. It’s a modern and clean approach that is alluring and sexy. DRAB…TO…FAB! Monday Edition. DOWNTON ABBEY! The Butler’s Pantry! For all you diehard fans of Downton Abbey, I thought in the spirit of the newly released movie, DRAB…TO…FAB would showcase an extravagant feature of a “highbrow” English home…the Butler’s Pantry. Historically, these rooms were essential for entertaining and today, serve the same purpose. If you’re lucky enough, that long and narrow wet bar space that typically connects the kitchen with the dining room, sure can come in handy when hosting guests. Out of sight…out of mind. Serving drinks or appetizers that are removed from the clutter of the kitchen, make any dinner or cocktail party seem more special. Butler’s Pantries are incredible bonus spaces that enhance the value to any home. DRAB….TO…FAB! A ROOM WITH A VIEW! We can’t all be so lucky as to have breathtaking views that overlook the ocean, or a beautiful cityscape, or even a majestic mountain range…but think in those same terms when showcasing your own home. Keep the windows open and unobstructed….and let the natural sunlight and outdoor vistas be seen! A beautiful garden, or a well kept lawn, or a bustling street can be just as nice and impactful to a discerning buyer, as a city skyline. It’s really important to highlight your home’s surroundings. BUYERS LOVE A ROOM WITH A VIEW. Let’s face it, New York City apartments that overlook Central Park or the Hudson River are coveted. They come with a price tag that reflects the VIEW and the LOCATION. DRAB TO FAB! Wednesday Edition! ANIMAL ATTRACTION! “A little leopard print never hurts anybody!” That’s an expression I often heard from one of my design professors. She loved using animal prints in her designs and encouraged her students to give it a try. Well….many years later….I learned she was right. Animal prints, in small doses, take a dull looking room to the next level. They add a degree of sophistication and, at the same time, a sense of humor. Wether you’re designing a woman’s bo***ir or a gentleman’s library, the animal print helps set the tone and design direction of the room. Want to create a positive impression for buyers? Try using animal prints as an accent on pillows, throws, upholstered chairs, wallcovering, or accessories…It’s a print that is recognizable and has huge visual impact. DRAB…TO…FAB! Tuesday Edition! THE CONCRETE JUNGLE! Concrete Floor and Wall Tiles! Finding unique and cost-effective flooring and wall alternatives always puts a smile on a home owner’s and buyer’s face. The world of concrete tiles has taken off! Trendy, fresh, and young…it’s a new approach to an old material that cleverly introduces color, pattern, and scale into a space. Wonderful when used in entryways, on kitchen backsplashes, or on bathroom floors and walls, these tiles become beautiful focal points to any room. But….be mindful. Running to Home Depot or a Design Showroom and purchasing them by the box should be forewarned. If used on floors, definitely consult an expert. In a group, they are extremely heavy and might need structural support. Also, they need to be continuously sealed over time. Aside from that, they are super eco-friendly, come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, and run the spectrum in price! So…BE DARING...and add some value to that house of yours! DRAB…TO…FAB! Monday Edition! ALL HANDS ON DECK! Who doesn’t love a nice deck?! When designed well, decks are outdoor living at its best. They provide another livable space that is physically attached to the home in different shapes and sizes and can be made using various materials, both natural and synthetic, but typically wood. Decks can be a welcomed refuge from the daily grind of the work day. Imagine after a busy day at the office or stressful day at school, sitting outside on the deck dining al fresco or lying on a chaise with a glass of wine or Pellegrino. Not far fetched at all! A deck is an extension of the home, so approach designing it the same way you would when selecting furniture and accessories for a kitchen/family room. By bringing the inside….out….and creating a space that is relaxing, comfortable, and welcoming, you have now added value to your home. It’s a design feature that will not disappoint. DRAB…TO…FAB! Sunday Edition! WIDE OPEN SPACES! No, it’s not the “Wide Open Spaces” the Dixie Chicks sing about…it’s the beautiful open space plan home owner’s love and seek out when buying a home. Open floor plans are particularly desirable among Millennials. This group loves the multi-functional, open space plan that allows families and friends to come together. The idea of “breaking down the walls” is not only literal but figurative. This openness is the perfect backdrop for great dinner parties, doing homework, or hanging out with others. The open space is an invitation to be social. Regardless of a home’s actual size, an open floor plan makes a home feel and look bigger. It’s the “cash cow” for creative furniture placement and forces the homeowner to think outside the box. Be bold, be creative, and have fun! DRAB…TO…FAB! Thursday Edition! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AVI ❤️ GOLDA! 16 years ago today, my life forever changed with the birth of my two beautiful children, Avi and Golda. Not a day, an hour, or a minute goes by that I am not forever and eternally thankful for their warm light and their incredible love…and the purpose they’ve given to my life. Time has shown me that being their mom is, by far, the most important and rewarding thing on the planet I was meant to do. It’s the legacy I will leave and the footprint that they will make. So to both of them…Happy Beautiful Birthday! Love you always to the moon and back.

DRAB…TO…FAB! Wednesday Edition! CEILING FANS! On hot days like these, a blowing ceiling fan can provide great relief to the sweltering heat from outside. I have to say, from a design standpoint, ceiling fans are not my favorite….but from a practical one, they serve a needed purpose. Rooms with high ceilings, outdoor living spaces, and spaces that can feel warm and stuffy, a fan can circulate the air and make a person feel more comfortable. Today’s fans are design statements. They have become modern, sleek, and streamlined, appealing to a much wider audience. Look at these fabulous examples of modern ceiling fans and maybe you, too, will install one in your home.
